for here am i sitting in a tin can far above the world
The image of a fall into the void was the starting point for the music and sound design of for here am i sitting in a tin can far above the world, a documentary essay directed by Gala Hernández (France, 2024, 19 min). Drawing on ideas of fluctuation, obsession and suspension, a series of sound pieces and musical compositions was developed as the basis for the film’s final soundscape.
Gala Hernández López is an artist, filmmaker, producer and researcher. Her interdisciplinary practice encompasses filmmaking, video installations, performances and publications, using these media as avenues for epistemological exploration. Her work investigates new forms of subjectivation shaped by computational capitalism, examining the imaginaries and narratives circulating within virtual communities, as well as the futures inspired by disruptive technologies: shared fictions that permeate our collective unconscious. At the heart of her practice lies an ecofeminist and critical sensibility that informs her research-based work, combining materialist analysis, poetry, intimacy and dreams to dissect humanity’s desire for technoscientific control over reality.
